Greetings from Beijing, where we just finished celebrating the 10th year of the Great Wall International Music Academy! It's been an incredible 10 years meeting so many amazing young artists from all around the world and we have been honored to help establish the next generation of global string soloists.

We are happy to announce the Great Wall International Music Academy 2014 Competition Winners, below.

In the Concerto Competition the First Prize Winner receives a full tuition scholarship for the summer of 2015, an opportunity for a solo performance in Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts and a cash prize of $500 donated by Dixon Stein Fine Violins in Chicago.

Winners study at the Central Conservatory in Beijing, Shanghai Conservatory, Xing Hai Conservatory in Guangzhou, Taiwan National University for the Arts, College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati (CCM), and Cleveland Institute of Music.


Violin:

  1. YANG Lu Meng, Beijing
  2. ZENG Dan Qi, Guangzhou
  3. Boyun LI, Chengdu, and Skye PARK, Lexington, KY, USA

Viola:

  1. AN Du, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia
  2. WANG Shu Han, Shanghai
  3. Charles CHEN, Taiwan

Cello:

  1. LIU Kai Tuo, Shen Zhen
  2. ZHANG Fan Ge, Shen Zhen
  3. Nicholas TSANG Man To, Hong Kong

The Chamber Music Competition was won by a Quartet of Jonathan Miron (Juilliard School), LIN Haoli (CCM), Lü An Qi (Central Conservatory Beijing), and Christoph Sasmannshaus (CCM)
The winners of the quartet competition receive a scholarship for 2015 and a set of instrument cases donated by BAM. (If a winner received a case last year the case for that instrument goes to the player in the quartet with the second prize)
A fine violin donated by the Lin violin maker studio of Shenzhen was awarded to LI Boyun.
Kurt Sassmannshaus and all Young Artists from the Academy in the dress rehearsal for the Mendelssohn Octet in Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts
