A young violinist goes to see Itzhak Perlman. He plays his violin for Perlman and asks if he has the talent to be a great violinist. Perlman tells him to give up the violin.
Years later, the young man, now an accountant, runs into Perlman again and asks, "How did you know I didn't have the talent?"
Perlman says, "That's what I tell everyone. If you'd truly wanted to play the violin, you wouldn't have listened to me." _________________ "Can you appreciate music without playing it? Yes, you can. That's similar to what the Oracle told Neo in The Matrix. But destiny happened... _________________ "Mother organized violin lessons for me in order to prevent me from thrashing the children of our neighbors." -- Nathan Milstein

| To do with Itzhak Perlman: My teacher was bugging me about the positioning of my arm and saying in, out, in, out..........while I was playing. Then he told me about how his old teacher had come early for a lesson with a really famous teacher and could here his teacher yelling for 15 minutes in, out, in, out......... really loudly he felt bad for the poor person and hoped that he wasn't next. A few minutes later out walks Itzhak Perlman! |

I thought it was Kogan. _________________ Bach gave us God's Word. Mozart gave us God's laughter. Beethoven gave us God's fire. God gave us Music that we might pray without words. -- quote from outside an old opera house |

Common mistake.
Their both Soviet, both won big competitions to start their career, both studied under the same teachers(for a while), and both have the same bow hold. _________________ "Can you appreciate music without playing it? that joke is kind of true, if the person really loved it, it wouldn't matter what someone said, even perlman _________________ There is no top. There are always further heights to reach.

I suppose it could be said that it depends on personality too. If someone said I couldn't do something, or that I should give something up, I would DEFINITELY do it more and work my arse off to prove them wrong. Yes, I've been told I have a "contrary personality". My eldest daughter, on the other hand, would give up immediately.... |
